How the Money Gets to You
This is a four step process:
1. The reader downloads your story.
2. We bill the reader once they've downloaded about $5.00 worth of stories.
3. The readers then pays the bill and we credit 80% of the $0.25 (if it's a short story) to you.
4. Once enough readers have paid for your stories so that we owe you $10, we'll send you a check.
FAQs
1. Why don't you bill the reader every time he/she downloads a story?
Answer: We want to make this process as painless as possible for the reader. It would be possible to immediately collect payments through credit cards, but we've decided against that payment mechanism due to security concerns.
2. Why do you wait for the payment to be received before you credit my account?
Answer: Particularly in the early phases of this web site, we expect that some irresponsible users will fail to pay which would cause this web site to quickly go bankrupt. In the near term, this appears to be the only way to offer writers a dependable service.
3. I just received a check for $35, why didn't you send me something as soon as my account reached $10?
Answer: To limit our administrative expenses, we will be making no more than one payment per month for each writer. Also, we do not monitor each account continuously (although we do check frequently), so it's possible that additional payments have been credited to your account between our checks.
4. Why is this so complicated?
Answer: It's really only complicated for us, but, since this process is mostly automated, it's quite fast and manageable. From your POV, you'll (a) send in some stories, (b) monitor how they're selling, and (c) get a check with a detailed printout of what was sold. We want to keep this as simple for you as possible because we know that you have the hardest part...writing that story.
