Sub-Genre Descriptions
Dark Fiction (Dark Poetry and Special Themes) -
Stories that fit into one of the special categories.
Ghost Stories (Ghosts, Haunted Houses) - Stories that feature a ghost as a
central character.
Gothic - Stories that use one of the classic Gothic themes.
Monsters (Animals, Mummies, Other Creatures, Scientific Horrors, Vampires,
Zombies) - Horror stories in which a main character, and usually the main
threat, is from a powerful non-human antagonist.
Occult (Satanic, Séances,
Witchcraft) - These stories feature Satan (or the worship of Satan), talking to
the dead, or the practice of black magic.
Psychological Horror (Killers, Mental Powers, Psychological Disturbances) - Are
stories that involve spree/serial/other murders, people with special mental
powers (like telepathy), or protagonists that are somehow psychologically
disturbed.
X-treme (Early Decadence, Goth, Splatterpunk) - No rules other than these
should be profoundly shocking to the average reader.
